Andrea, you are fabulous, thanks! I feel much better about my knife now that I know the tang wasn't a result of a demented smith, but someone who knew what he was doing.

That's not something I'd worry too much about. But 5th-12thC, I suppose. It seems a little crude for later periods.

So...an opinion.. check out blade number 3 on page 94 of "The Archeology of Celtic Ireland and Britain".

It looks amazingly like the later medieval scians. Would people have a problem with me using something like this at an early irish gig ? (mine has steel & oak furniture, rather than brass).
