Lucas Type 2: real patterns and hands on experience

Hi,

I'm in the process of sewing Type 2 shoes. The most important photo I have shows curved up toe.


I wonder how it's made. Should be stretched over a wooden last or something like that.
Another question is about real pattern. I guess, it will be easier to grasp the idea after seeing more examples.
So if you have examples of Type2 shoes, you know good seller or know how to make them close to real finds - your suggestions are appreciated.

I have made them, have a pattern that I cant share as I got if for free someone who makes shoes professionally on the basis that I wouldnt
Key stuff:
-Single piece of leather. You can make a pattern using cloth wrapped in tape and then marked and cut
- a critical bit of the heel assembly is that the vertical seam needs to be disrupted by a tongue type overlap - think of an upside down L ...essentiall a vertical tear is limited by the horizontal stitches

A nice bit felted fleece for the insoles is also a must...oh and dont wear on gravel!

IF shoes is your thing then get the book Stepping Through Time. It is expensive but has literally hundreds of patterns

The Lukas article is the one I have, tho I have the images as well... they're simple images, but make it quiet straightforward.

Did you make Type 2 shoes yourself? Can you share images/examples of your work?

Despite the cool parallax, they did actually turn out the same shape

I'm not sure what hints etc. I could share - other than you should use a bent awl, so you can tunnel-stitch accurately and carefully. I think next time, i'd use thinner leather, so it doesn't bunch as much when it's pulled tight. You should see no external seams, except for the small bit at the toe.

Yours is type 1. Decent shoes, I like them.
But I'm looking for type 2, sewn in the middle.

Hi Oleg,
attached is my first effort at a pair of Lucas Type 2 shoes. Size 9. One piece of 3mm vege-tan leather each, sown with bees waxed linen thread with center seam displayed with ornate cross over stitching. Price E130 plus P+P. I doubt if there were rules or fashion police counting stitches and suggest that there must have been as many variations on a basic theme as there were shoemakers.
