what hats Irish have in the 9 11 century
who can give good advice
a hat it would be correct to use?

I have a few ideas on this subject
first
that could be Leine with a hood, constitute a single unit
next
hood of type of blessing hedebyu
or similar design
third
could be used as a raincoat and hat, throw it on the head
is all that concerns man's

about women
I know that there is a cap from Dublin
and the image of the Virgin
that it tells me that Irish women could use handkerchiefs for this
but this is only thought

It's hard to go wrong with a phrygrian hat. Seems to work any period from 1000BC to 1500AD. Though, I'm not sure if they were in Ireland.

On hooded leinte - is there a concensus on accurate or not ? I made up a linen one ( http://pix.ie/kamilkrawczak/1076225/in/album/346995 ) and it looks really cool, as well as being practical on a warm day. You'd want a hooded wool leine for real warmth/waterproofing, and I've not tried one of those.

This hood was found in the Orkney and is early medieval. It is probably a pictish garnment however, as similar hoods are depicted on class-2 pictish stones.

Note it is labelled 'viking' there, more because of belonging to the 'viking' era, yet the datation could be pre-viking, and has probably been reconsidered since. Yet, this is a really interesting garnment for North-western early medieval Europe.

I know about this find from Orkney. For me it's just a good example of how weird medieval clothing could be. Our knowledge of textiles is very limited due to small amount of finds survived. The variety of forms that were in fashion could be unusual and surprising.

In a Guide to Early Irish Law by Fergus Kelly he mentions that the wife of a priest had to wear a veil or he could be removed from the church. I'll check up the exact reference later to get a date for that but it is most likely earlier. Though I doubt you are looking for stuff on women's clothing

women in the churches should cover their head
Well, in the Russian Orthodox Church, women must enter the temple with his head covered, men also need to be in church without hats
